Top Picks: Clothing Edition

A while back we shared a few of our favourite accessories from local labels and like minded businesses, because we know how much accessories can make an outfit. But what about the outfit itself? Today we’ve found a few local Melbourne clothing brands to share with you.

The Road

Nikki McAllum is the brains behind The Road, a label that builds clothes that look good, feel good and don’t mess up the planet. Using sustainably sourced cotton and zero liquid dying methods, they pay their workers a fair wage and make some damn nice clothing as well. They’re affordable and their tees and undies are well worth a look.

Womenswear

Nobody Denim

Back in 1999 in a small, family-built denim laundry in the backstreets of Melbourne, a label that believed in making jeans with integrity and creativity began. Nobody Denim has spent decades discovering everything there is to know about denim to bring you high quality, ethical jeans in a range of styles to suit every person. This local brand is brimming with Melbourne pride, and loves to represent it on a world stage. Check them out here.

Cable Melbourne

Georgina Austin is the mastermind behind premium Australian knitwear label Cable Melbourne. Launched in 2007, the label specialises in Australian merino wool, creating luxurious staples that will last, with a modern, timeless ethos. The range of styles and versatility of the pieces means Cable Melbourne has something for everyone. Shop the range over on their website

The Ark

The Ark is a brand that is passionate about creating ‘simple wardrobes with intelligent design’, helping women feel stylish and confident anytime, anywhere. With 4 stores in Victoria, 1 in South Australia and an online store they are easily accessible and have beautiful basics that would be at home in any wardrobe. Plus, they’re Australian made and ethically accredited. How good is that? You can see their stuff here.

Menswear

Mr Simple

Mr Simple began when it’s founders were looking for classic clothing, without prominent logos and after having trouble finding it, decided to make their own. They started making tees, sweats and chinos in 2007 and Mr Simple was born. With thought going into fit, fabric and colour, these pieces are wardrobe stables that will complement any outfit. FLUX

Julian and Denis are a pair of designers who met at a punk gig in the 1980’s, and have since founded and continue to run their Melbourne based menswear label FLUX. They make denim and tees with attention to detail, and have managed to remain close to the process with all their jeans being hand sanded, drilled, rubbed and washed, as well as finished with individually painted hardware. Check out their website here.
